1. What is the best time to visit Thailand?
Generally, November to February is the most comfortable period, with cooler and drier weather. March–May can be very hot, while the rainy season varies by region.
2. How many days are enough for Thailand?
5–7 days: Bangkok + one beach destination
8–10 days: Bangkok + Chiang Mai + Phuket/Krabi

3. Do Indians need a visa for Thailand?

4. What currency is used?
Thailand uses the Thai Baht (THB). Cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, but cash is useful for markets, street food, taxis and smaller businesses.
5. Is Thailand expensive?
It can suit almost any budget. Backpackers can travel relatively cheaply, while luxury hotels and island resorts can make the trip considerably more expensive.
6. Is Thailand safe for tourists?
Thailand is generally very tourist-friendly. Take normal precautions with valuables, scams, traffic, nightlife, and unfamiliar areas.
7. Which places are best for a first Thailand trip?
A popular combination is Bangkok + Phuket/Krabi + Chiang Mai. For beaches, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan are popular choices.
8. What should I pack?
Light clothing, comfortable footwear, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, swimwear, a small day bag and modest clothing for temples. A light rain jacket can also be useful.
9. What food should I try?
Pad Thai, Tom Yum, Green Curry, Massaman Curry, Mango Sticky Rice, Som Tam and Thai street-food dishes are good starting points.
10. How do I get around Thailand?
Domestic flights are convenient for longer distances. Bangkok has excellent public transport, while taxis, Grab, tuk-tuks, ferries and buses are useful depending on the destination.
11. Can I use UPI in Thailand?
Some Thai merchants support payment methods connected to Indian UPI, but coverage isn't universal. Carry a backup card and some Thai Baht.
12. What should I know about Thai temples?
Dress respectfully: shoulders and knees should generally be covered when entering temples. Remove shoes where required and follow local customs.
Visas & Entry
- Most nationalities (US, UK, EU, Australia, Canada, etc.) get visa-free entry for 30-60 days for tourism — check the current rules for your passport since Thailand has adjusted these recently.
- Passport needs at least 6 months validity remaining.
- You may be asked for proof of onward travel and sufficient funds, though this is rarely checked in practice.
Best time to visit
- Nov–Feb: cool, dry season — best weather, peak crowds and prices.
- Mar–May: hot season — very hot, especially inland (Bangkok, Chiang Mai).
- Jun–Oct: rainy/green season — cheaper, lush scenery, but expect afternoon downpours (varies by coast — the Andaman side and Gulf side have opposite monsoon patterns).
Money
- Currency is Thai Baht (THB). ATMs are everywhere but charge a foreign transaction fee (~220 THB) on top of your bank's fee.
- Cash is still king for street food, markets, and small shops; cards work in malls, hotels, and nicer restaurants.
- Tipping isn't mandatory but is appreciated — rounding up or 10% in restaurants is common.
Getting around
- Domestic flights are cheap and efficient for long distances (Bangkok–Chiang Mai, Bangkok–Phuket, etc.).
- Trains and overnight sleeper trains are a scenic, budget-friendly option.
- Grab (like Uber) works well in cities. Tuk-tuks and taxis should be negotiated or metered.
- Islands often need a combination of bus/van + ferry.
Health & safety
- No mandatory vaccinations for most travelers, but check on Hepatitis A/B, Typhoid, and Japanese Encephalitis if you're going rural.
- Tap water isn't drinkable — stick to bottled/filtered.
- Travel insurance is strongly recommended, especially if you'll be on scooters — routine but real risk.

- Easy to grab a tourist SIM at the airport (AIS, DTAC, True) or use an eSIM before you land.
